FOLLOW FRIDAY #3 MOONCHILD1993_ART
I'm so excited to be bringing you the first of our new and improved Follow Friday Small Business Features! This week I'm so happy to introduce you all to the wonderful Amber, who runs MoonChild1993_Art over on Instagram and Etsy. I discovered Amber's work after days and DAYS of searching for resin moulds. I just couldn't find any that I loved. Next minute, I saw Ambers Planchette designs and I was sold! - So many of my items are made using her moulds and if you're into resin crafting yourself, do yourself a favour, read this and then head over to her Etsy, because everything she creates is beaaaautiful!
Tell us a bit about yourself!
My name is Amber aka MoonChild 🖤 I’m 27 and currently run a mould making business. I have so much passion for anything creative and I can’t get enough! Doing art as a job full time and being my own boss has always been a dream of mine, and I have achieved it! Dreams do come true!
Where did you get the idea for your business name?
My business name - MoonChild1993_art comes from my fascination with the moon and how I am so drawn to it. I always have been, it makes me feel calm and at peace.
What are your main influences/inspirations when creating products for MoonChild?
My main influences are other artists. Wiccan and esoteric themes. Also the drive to always create something that I love, and something that I would buy myself.
Whats your process for making your ideas come to life? How are they made?
My process literally comes from an idea in my head. I will research photos around the idea - colours, styles and themes etc. I draw my idea in Photoshop or, I'll 3D model my idea in Fusion360 and then I'll go from there. Either laser cutting or printing the finished product. I then pour the silicone over them and hey presto! We have a beautiful unique mould!
Whats your favourite thing about being a small business owner?
My favourite thing about being a small business owner is having the creative freedom to do whatever I want. It’s exciting that people share the love of my ideas and creations, and that always drives me to make more.
And now, what's your least favourite? 😂
My least favourite thing about being a small business owner is the pressure to make a living. It’s not a reliable source of income but it is something I am so passionate about.
What are you most looking forward to as an Independent Business when things start to go back to normal?
I am most looking forward to hopefully expanding my brand to creating products other than moulds. Having a craft stall would be a dream!
If you could recommend five other independent businesses to the readers, who would they be and why?
5 other business I highly recommend:
These are all businesses that inspire me whenever they post and to see them always growing is amazing! They produce quality items! 🖤
Does anything else inspire your work? I.e, music, films, seasons?
Inspiration comes from everywhere for me.
From music: ranging from punk, psych rock to new age spiritual music to classical. I absolutely love winter, the feeling of being cosy and comfortable.
Do you have any new items/collections coming up? - Tell us about them!
I'm working on a new designs all the time! But, one I am excited about is a handheld Scrying Mirror.
Do you have any lockdown Music / Film / book recommendations for the readers?
Music Reccomendations for you to listen to would be:
Punk: Amyl and the Sniffers, Drenge
Classical: Max Ricther
Acoustic: Keaton Henson
Electronic: Crystal Castles
Psych: The Wytches
And a film, my favourite film in the world is The Craft. The soundtrack is amazing and it inspires me every time I watch it.
I'm so, so, so happy to have Amber on board to do one of these Features because honestly, as I said earlier, everything she brings out is incredible. Her moulds are just next level with quality and are just so unique and a dream to create beautiful pieces with!
